Sol y Canto & Melodic Vision Present

Noche de Muertos: Welcoming Our Ancestors Home

Melodic Vision joins Sol y Canto to illuminate one of Mexico’s favorite holidays, Day of the Dead. Celebrated early in November, Day of the Dead is both a heartfelt homage to ancestors and a lighthearted, community-centered excuse for family gatherings, creative crafts, food, floral arrangements, dance, pageantry — and poking fun at the grim reaper! The stunning finale, the “Noche de Muertos,” is a moving, night-long, candlelit vigil at the local cemetery, filled with friends, family, and — if all goes well — friendly spirits from beyond.

A first-ever collaboration between the two groups, this unique presentation combines live music, compelling photographs, and lively discussion of Michoacán’s extravagant, profound, and yet irreverent Día de los Muertos celebrations, in which deceased loved ones are reminded that they’re still part of the family
